I actually brought up the enemy/ally thing you mention to support for single player games but it applies to warlords/team.   I noticed if 3 vs 1 the three can all declare enemy but the 1 is not able to put up the same defenses as the 3 so further making him at a bigger disadvantage.
In our team game I see it more how the warlords would play out.  Two members of the other team are making waves in your region while the third is building up.  So naturally you would declare on the two immediately threats but then the third invades and you must now undeclared one and declare another loosing orders and influence.
End result they did not see a problem but my guess this will be a rule change down the road.  Something like you can declare enemy over two to anyone that has already declared you an enemy. Does not fix everything but at least helps

I agree the declared enemy issue does have some functionality issues.  I like the spirit of the idea but it is really more of a defensive order than an offensive one.

I kind of like the limit of 2. Not for gang up purposes though. For instance, when I am looking for a region to take, I look at who has already declared 2 enemies. Like Hawk said, it is more defensive than offensive so it does not mean they already have two attackers. I look at the region and if there are not 2 attackers, then I go in and take it. It kind of makes sense. I mean how many kingdoms would survive if they declared every nation an enemy and refused to trade or cooperate in any manner?

I like having to choose who to declare enemies as well. There are significant benefits to it and I've seen far too many 2nd Cycle games where some players declare everyone an enemy.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

And that was the primary reason for the change, along with associating more of a cost to it - it was a way cheap denigration, effectively.  Now you must identify the threats, time when to make the declaration, and consider the limit on enemies.  More strategy decisions rather than the carte blanche and widespread enemy declarations.

The code for order resolution is the same in all formats.
