Ideas for the Next Scenario?
#51
I am hoping that when we get migrated to a new technology, that we can make the current cycle of Alamaze flexible, scalable & resilient. Meaning, that we could add on to the existing game (similar to installing expansion packs in other game genres). It is still 3rd Cycle, but with tiered popcenters, or with settlers that can found new popcenters, or with 12 new kingdoms, ....new maps, new characters, new buildings....etc., etc., etc... (for example).

Also would be nice if PC's could be upgraded from one PC type to another. (maybe based on census? or a special command with resource costs, or certain building/structures) For example:
Settlement (or small village)
Crossroads
Village
Township (small town)
Burghal
Fortified Town
Principality (small city)
City
Metropolis - maybe, this is when a city becomes known to all kingdoms???
No offense, bit that was all Fall of Rome discussion for Arcania, and is not off the table for Arcania.
I like this.  Also could give some basic idea of census as a group moves or Emmy enters the city without fully scouting yet.  Makes for an interesting thing later in the game after others thought they had the region already divined

No offense taken.  I probably got the idea from those discussion back then.

I am just throwing ideas against the wall to see if any stick (like I do when I cook spaghetti).  :-)

I'm still not sure players have adjusted to 3rd Cycle, and it was curious Head Honcho had a request for a 2nd Cycle game.

But even with limited intelligence on the matter, the main undercurrent seems to be "are the wizard kingdoms relatively too strong?"  They did finish like 1 - 4 in just finished #520.
So there is a case.  As we don't have 3rd Cycle Valhalla yet, I don't have the exact stats.

As those that have been around know, I want all 24 kingdoms to be equally appealing, interesting choices.  I understand Halflings are not a top choice in Anonymous, but I think the jury is out in other diplomacy formats.  I could actually see them being a top choice in Warlords or Alliance, but I am no expert player.

We are very close on Valhalla... And also beta testing the Player Aids. I am hoping to have them both out very soon.

I did notice that the Necromancer has won something like 4 Classic games in a row (3 1st Place Podiums + 1 Team win), and I think that we have only had 7 or 8 games finish so far (so minimum 50% win rate). If the Wizard kingdoms are weaker....then my first thought is that every other non-wizard kingdom is equally weaker... But, I do not feel that they are weak at all. (no deep analysis here....just a gut feeling).

I'm sort of feeling it myself.  In 2nd Cycle, I think the wizards might have been at #13 and there abouts in Valhalla.

In 3rd Cycle, we had so many tremendous changes in design and delivery (interface and code).

But if there is a consensus that the wizard kingdoms are over powered (or is it just a spell like Dome?) we need to adjust for the next scenario.  On a new map.  With 2-4 new kingdoms.

So go again.

One thing I did notice in my team game with the Necromancer. I had detailed discussions with my teammates on what route they should take the kingdom. We had a lot of options (military vs. non-military, support kingdom vs. primary aggressor, raise a few wizards very high vs. getting a large number of medium level wizards....etc.). For sure, you cannot play a wizard kingdom exactly like you did in 2nd cycle. If you are unwilling to change your strategy, then maybe that could give you the impression that they are weaker. ...again, no data to support my assumptions.

Completely off the wall but how about a generic version where every player starts off with exactly the same resources and set up.

no.

Kind of a short response, but I agree with the conclusion. I wouldn't be interested in such a game.
