The Choosing - 3rd Beta Comments
(03-17-2016, 06:35 PM)Atuan Wrote: I do have a question on the max of 3 companions per turn rather than 3 per group.  I am completely comfortable with this but doesn't this put a serious hurt on the RD/BL as they cannot recruit humans?  Is there a different number they should be allowed to recruit or am I seeing this wrong?

No RD/BL in 3rd Cycle Smile

RD/TY are the dispersed and BL/SA are in region 5.

As such you could have both in a game.

Ah, right you are. I didn't actually look in the dossiers and haven't seen them in a beta game yet. I was remembering some comment from Ry Vor a long time ago that he was doing away with things like dragon kingdoms and making them special troop types. My bad, ignore me.

No worries, just not sure if I am the only one that sees 3 recruits per turn for the dragon kingdoms as a concern.

Not just you. It is a major concern for those two.

My take is that game balance isn't a huge concern at the moment. And that playing the new kingdoms will be more interesting anyway.

Well, if it's any consolation, the BL and RD got a slight boost in initial starting brigades on turn 0 to help make up for the fact they will only be able to recruit 3 brigades per turn for the rest of the game. Though I'm a bit disappointed that Dragon Fear got replaced with the Ruthless trait effect. Always loved those special Dragon Fear descriptions (had over 20 different possible sentence fragments in their construction).

Has anyone else run into the new limits on brigade types?

Here's what I currently have:

Brigade Type Experience Number Morale Attrition Defense

Druid Elite 1 125% 0% Average
Druid Veteran 3 125% 0% Average
Minotaurs Elite 2 125% 8.3% Good
Minotaurs Veteran 2 125% 10.8% Good
Minotaurs Regular 1 125% 10.8% Good
Wood Elves Veteran 1 124% 29.0% Average
Apes Elite 1 120% 19.0% Average
Centaurs Veteran 1 125% 17.5% Good
Apes Regular 2 104% 0% Average
Zombies Regular 4 104% 0% Average

I tried to add another centaur brigade so I could successfully flank, but I ran into the max number of brigade types so the recruit failed. Bummer.

I also have a question about what would happen in the next fight if, say, one of my zombie brigades went to Veteran? Would I lose the brigade? Would the promote fail?

While I totally love the larger number of brigade types, my hope was that the days of having to micro manage the types of units in your group would be over. Now I fear it is actually worse based on the far greater number of troops available and the additional experience levels.

Is there any reason that there can't be an unlimited number of brigade types in a group?

You have a 10 brigade type limit and as such they wouldn't promote if it came to that.

So hope for your minotaurs to move to vet/elite or dump the wood elves.

Its not easy managing a military. Harder even in the 3rd cycle Smile

Interesting Sea Battle with AT (I'm surprised I won!)

Sea Battle Sea battle in the sea of Mystery over rough seas: 2 fleets of Amazons

barges vs. 1 fleet of Atlantians small galleys. During the first hour of
battle, long and medium range catapult fire inflicted minor damage to the
Amazons navy and devastating damage to the Atlantians small galleys. As the
forces drew near, ballistas, fire arrows and grappling missiles caused
negligible losses to the Amazons barges and negligible losses to the
Atlantians ships. When the navies clashed at close range, ramming tactics
and ship to ship melee resulted in additional negligible damage to the
Amazons ships, and negligible damage to the Atlantians ships. By this time,
losses to the Amazons ships were very light compared to devastating losses
to the Atlantians barges based on the overall number of ships in each navy.
The battle continued to rage for some time until both fleets withdrew.
Amazons losses were put at 0 fleet while Atlantians losses were estimated
at 1 fleet. Damage to surviving ships resulted in diminished naval quality
in that sea.
