Greetings Noble Ranger!

Although there have not been hostilities between our people and our distant cousins in centuries, we still question the wisdom of revealing the location of this portal.

OOC: I think LD predicted in another thread (and I agreed) that it would be all flowers and sunshine for a while, before a series of all-out wars break out. Given the recent saber-rattling by GI and TR, and the war of words between DW and RA, I have a feeling that the time for flowers and sunshine will be ending soon. Smile

With that said, the reason I think this format is better for newer players is that first, there is a wealth of in-thread advice available from players who are already highly engaged. Second, the more extended time of peace (which I agree seems to be a natural outgrowth of this format) will allow a longer opportunity to build and grow and thus learn the ropes on some of the higher-level concepts. Finally, due to the decreased ability to coordinate and the possibility of forming mutual defense pacts, there's less chance a newer player just gets completely blitzed and crushed in the early-game.

EDIT: Speaking of which, you know that some of you are having a blast here. How about joining the second game that's forming? Two spots left! Smile

OOC: I'd guess that as the game evolves we'll see a return to earlier war and aggression with this format. I thought lots of players rushed into NAPs and alliances, which is perhaps more critical in a full diplomacy game than one in which you can more readily assess imminent threats.

I'd join the second (glad to see there is another one already), but I already find the time demands of this one challenging. I would encourage those joining to not treat it as any other opportunity to get in a game, but to participate fully in the role-playing and diplomacy aspect and to forego this format if time precludes that.

Great Imperator,

I'm grateful for your assurances and accept the condition of the NAP. I have no intentions of committing any hostile acts against the Ranger, save for those in self defense should he attack me in the Mountains, of course. As indicated, if you'd accept a third party to your alliance I'd be a loyal and capable ally, though I'd assume the Ranger's current stance might preclude this. His demands are nothing less than extortion.

Regarding the sea. I object to the assertion this is the sole dominion of the Darkelf and Ranger, for I start with a navy and town there. I recognize the stragegic importance to both your kingdoms, however it is the only safe haven for my capital for when I need one, which is exposed and vulnerable in the mountains. I accept your word that you won't attack, but how would I defend against your own ally, who now bears a grudge?

Noble Ranger,

I believe the next move is yours. We truly hope that you and the dwarves can come to mutually acceptable terms.

I understand your reluctance to trust a race that has wronged you so much in the past.  However, the portal is far from your lands and so any Elven army would be no threat to you.  But perhaps you are right that for now we should keep said portal a secret.

Wise Imperator,

I, too, hope for peace even at this late hour.  We'll see what that peace is worth to the dwarves.  I do not consider my request extortionist since his region is wealthy beyond measure.  If it would make it seem more palatable, instead of viewing the gold and food as reparations, he could consider it a gift to build an alliance.

I believe the next move is actually in his hands as to whether peace is of value to him and whether he will agree to the 'gift' that I have requested.  Such a gift would go a long way to assuage the anger of the people.

Lord Swordhand,

If you swear yourself to peace with my kingdom (this would entail agreeing to a NAP until at least T25) and promise the security of my possession in the Sea of Drowning I'll dismantle my fleet.

I respectfully and emphatically reject your demand for 75k gold and food. A demand for the virginity of my daughter Helga would be less unreasonable.

Dear Friend,
As this was an unintended tragedy, I do feel that much of what the dwarves have offered is reasonable. He does, of course, owe you some compensation. Perhaps you could drop the food request, as his region is not known for farming and he does have armies to feed. Weakening our northern neighbor would not be in the best interests of either of our kingdoms.
Cordially,
Your Ally,
Roris

To The Mighty King Oban of the Ever-growing Beard, We Send Greetings. (See, we can write prissy talk, too!). The Troll kingdom can tell you stories about those nasty Rangers. We hate them! How dare they demand money from you because their garbage scows got in the way of your fleets! You should tell King Penis-In-Hand to go play with himself some more.
But if you decide to make peace with that foul fapper, we invite you to come bash with us. The Evil One has been silent too long. Come, join us and add to your kingdom. Let us rid the land of that stinking turd once and for all!
