My Friends,

I had heard about the Trolls' position but must have missed where you agreed to it. Regardless, let me consider and come back to you before the end of next month with a proposal, I'm sure we can work something out. I am indeed grateful for your willingness to respect Runnimede artifact sightings and retrievals, and so I will figure something out.

Ruler of the Drow,

Congratulations on your ascension to Great Imperator. This shift in power bodes well for peace between our kingdoms.

I was concerned that Ambassador Gonar Trannis might be used by your predecessor to locate my capital, as such I ordered him executed this past month. I was making preparations for war against the Drow, after all. I hope this doesn't diminish the hope that we can find peace.

The Great Imperator, new to the crown, but a scion of one of the oldest noble families in the realm, rises from his adamantine throne and hands the dwarven missive back to the delegate who brought it. He smiles and answers ...

We have not lived these many centuries without learning the value of forbearance.

Please carry our wishes for health, prosperity and long life to your great King Oban, Mighty Monarch of the Mountains.
The unfortunate death of our dear ambassador does not diminish our desire for cordial relations with the doughty dwarves.
Although The Onyx Imperium has suffered the loss of a fine servant and a ski chalet to you, while you retain a beautiful fishing port in our fair land, we will not quibble over details. The Great King Oban is known throughout Alamaze for his justice. He will undoubtedly find a way to make amends in his own time.

He turns to one of his waiting courtiers ...

Provide food, drink and entertainment for this messenger of the dwarves for as long as he wishes to remain our guest.

Gathering his inky robes about him, he returns to his throne and is soon lost in thought.

The keeper of the royal aviary asks the scribe who hands him the scroll, "His Majesty wants to deliver this by raven?!" "Yes", is the reply. "He says it is too small to be even a snack and therefore more likely to pass through dragon lands and reach its goal."

Greetings, Great Lord of Everything Between The Land And Stars!
I would be remiss if I did not send a personal missive to the Supreme Serpent of the Sands upon my ascension to the throne.

Few of the races of Alamaze are as old as ours. The Drow and the Black Dragons have a long history together. I myself remember exploring the dark woods with your kin when I was but a star-child and they little more than hatchlings. It is our hope that we may rekindle that friendship in the current age. Please share with us your thoughts on the matter.
May your skies be filled with stars,
The Great Imperator of the Drow

Sire, we have not received a reply from the Ranger yet. It concerns me.

As they ride through the woods, the Great Imperator looks back at his Chancellor and smiles.

Master of Shadows,

I wish for there to be lasting peace between our kingdoms and hope you'll consider this offer well. I offer you the occupation of a town and village in the Mountains from turn ten until the earliest of turn 15 or when you've met your early strategic objectives. This is in addition to the permanent protection of your town in the Mountains. My asking price takes into consideration the considerable benefit you stand to gain from this arrangement. My requested conditions are:
  1. A unilateral transfer of gold and food in the amount of the PC's production each turn you receive production from my PCs, which will require an ally declaration. You'll declare me neutral at the time I reoccoupy the PCs, or immediately upon my request.
  2. Starting on turn 10 you'll initiate a standing order to have a L5+ agent or fanatic in the mountains guard the 1DW. The cost of this ongoing protection shall be borne by the Underworld. You may escape this obligation at any time, including up front, by paying 20k gold.
  3. You offer your solemn oath that for the remainder of this struggle the agents of the Underworld shall not take any actions against the Dwarf, including against emissaries, PCs, groups, etc.
  4. You also agree to respect the sovereignty of the Talking Mountains and to not attack me there at any time for any reason.
  5. You won't share any details of my kingdom, including PC locations, emissary info, group locations, etc. with any other kingdom.
  6. The above three conditions are void if for any reason I take a hostile action against you, excepting any actions I may take to reoccupy my town or village.
  7. Lastly, I'll offer you an option to retain your status in the mountains permanently and to keep those PCs and their production. If you transfer to me one artifact of excellent quality of better you may keep the town and village and will no longer be obliged to transfer the production of those PCs.
What say ye?

With honor,

King Oban

GI ----> AN

Hail ancient Consuls.  As you know we are trying to consolidate our new lands and we have arrangements for the BL to own the city and an additional town, the GN to own a village and the AN to own both a Town and a Village in Arcania.

I am wondering if there is some sum of gold or other favor that would be worth allowing the GI to own your town.  Even owning your village instead would give us a little extra security from would be attackers.  If you prefer to keep them both then let it be so.  We thought only to offer to learn if a mutually beneficial arrangement could be reached.

Gnome king we owe you a debt for your help feeding our troops last turn.  I intend to pay back in gold at least the balance your forsook (the 8:1 will be remedied to at least 3:1) either this turn or next.

Lord Lothaedus,

Yes, I did offer originally to provide some compensation to keep the town in your region. But I can't find any messages from you that state what you wanted. Just let me know and I'll see if the deal is something that makes sense. There seems to be split opinion on whether towns in other kingdoms regions are fair game or not. Mostly I've seen them left alone unless there was a pressing need to solidify a region due to unusual circumstances such as region sharing or late start. I tend to feel like starting positions belong to the original owner and that moving on them without agreement is a hostile action. I have left all such belongings alone in my region and expect the same treatment in return. I realize that none of those towns and villages in Amberland are yours, but if everyone acts the same then it works out for everyone. For example I know that the dark skinned dragons to your North have not touched your village. So maybe if I owe you something to keep my town, you owe the dragons something to keep yours?

Sincerely,
"Torch Pecker"

Dearest Torch Pecker,

I understand and respect your opinion.  I will not interfere with your town.  Perhaps you could send a spell or two my way in the future.

Best,
Lord Lothaedus

Hail Great Imperator,

My apologies for my late reply.  I have, as you surmised, just returned from a triumphant quest.

As you know, I did put into motion actions against your predecessor, the dark elf tyrant.  To that end, I have surrounded my town wherein your prince resides with the intent of capturing him.  However, I am delighted that you have deposed that malicious ruler.  I seek peace between our kingdoms, even at this late hour.

Would you be so kind as to move your prince out of my town that he currently occupies.  Once I see him vacate, I will happily declare us neutral again.  I hope that we could even build on this start and someday become allies.

With your new leadership, I would like to consider our NAP still in place until the end of summer with the very likely possibility of extending it further.

Best regards,
Lord Lothaedus of the Rangers
