Regional reactions
#1
Did I miss a post or have we fully implemented something I missed?
In a certain game, I was Friendly in a region. I took the region, still friendly. I then lost the region, and went to Tolerant.
This is probably why there were 2 levels of Friendly built in originally.
Losing a region now adds a penalty.
Am I reading this wrong or did we remove the 2nd level of Friendly that now introduces a penalty for losing the region?

This sounds like it needs a fix to me.

I seem to remember Cipher addressing this about a month ago, that there is no "double friendly" or "double hostile".  There are just the four regional reaction levels presently.

Ok just seeing an unintended consequence. Every time you lose a region you will drop to Tolerant even if gaining the region did not give you a reaction level.

That is very odd.

So the answer is that is the way it is going to work now?

No idea, that's the way it's looking, I guess.

Let me try again.  This came up a month or so ago on a different thread and Cipher had posted there is no "double friendly or double hostile", meaning it is just as it is in the rules: there are four regional reactions, not six.

So if you are at Friendly, and gain control of the region, you are still at Friendly, not Double Friendly.  If you lose control of the region, you are now at Tolerant.  Same on the other side of the coin: if you were Hostile in a region, and your enemy gains control of the region, you are still Hostile, not Double Hostile.

The only source of confusion might be if your Natural Enemy gains control of a region, you can't get better than Suspicious (this is also in the rules) until he loses the region.

There was no change made to anything in the political model in the platform change.

The takeaway for strategy is that if you are Tolerant and can take the region without Enamoring, you might do that, as you will move to Friendly when you control the region, and so would be in a sense a waste to go to Friendly via king order.  Of course, you might need to be at Friendly in the first place to gain the region, but then you will not benefit further when gaining control of the region.

As I have mentioned here before, in 3rd Cycle we will likely have at least 7 Regional Reactions as we did in Fall of Rome.

I think people are thrown by this because it has a practical effect that was not anticipated (hence VBM's comment about unintended consequences).

Given that regional control is a distinct event that gives you the benefit of a Baron without it being taken away, would it be possible to make the RR bonus similar? So that losing control does not take you down one RR.

If the answer is that it's done and buried, that's fine too. Just explaining why people are a bit off balance by this news.

I am surprised about this consequence, but I think I actually like it! Now there is a real negative to losing control of a region. I say leave it the way it is!
