High Priestess Changes

For a tangent: One "good" thing about it is those higher level spells that do what HP's do are now more valuable. Because honestly, power 8 spells kinda suck. Have you seen the witchlord power 8 spell list? Booooooring. Damage a city? Raise your influence? That's it? Power 8? RAISE YOUR INFLUENCE? I'm stifling a yawn. If you've got a wizard to power 8, the last thing you wanna do is raise your freaking influence.

How about teleport AND invisible an army group with one spell. I honestly see zero reason to go to power 8. What happened to advanced summoning and another level of Summon Demon?

I agree that the spells and spell lists can use an overhaul at some point. Over the years, I have proposed a couple of different spell system options. Maybe I'll dust one of them off to see if Rick and Cipher might want to take a look when they have time.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

I want a special spell that can be reached with level 9 - Dusi Doom. Said spell will obliterate the capital of whatever kingdom Dusi is playing!

We'll make that a P-9 Troll and Dwarven spell.

Agreed, but I think we take it one step further.

When cast, it will destroy the capital of whatever kingdom Dusi is playing in any currently active game running. If there are no active games running, it will retro-actively destroy his capital in a previously completed game, immediately causing him to drop 1 space on the podium for that game.

I like the assumption that I will be on the podium for all games I play in. Please note, my being on the podium is not an assured thing, unless DuPont is also playing. He's good for warming up troops, emissaries, agents, etc.

Thanks, DuPont! Raise my gold?

I disagree that "everyone knows who gets a HP at the start". Newcomers certainly wouldn't know. Anyhow it avoids the whole issue of the fact that the balance is altered. Maybe that was intentional, but I'm betting it wasn't. Some kingdoms really take a hit. Look at the EL, for instance,. No HP, and he starts with a pretty paltry 11 influence. After hiring a HP, it's 10.5, which is pretty atrocious, particularly if his ESO is tied to having a higher influence than the DA who stats out at....13? something like that AND a HP.

Why not start a thread to talk about spell lists and post some of your ideas? I totally agree that the higher level spells are rather underwhelming, given how much time and gold it takes to get to them. Plus the direct combat spells are...not so terribly effective, really. I think some changes might be in order there too.

Within this one thread and recent posts, we essentially have the conservative and liberal arguments.

We'll always have Alamaze Classic available for those who want no changes. Meanwhile, Resurgent is a step toward lots of other changes.

And it is a very good step. You and I have been discussing (and arguing and debating) game design for a long time now, although I came into the picture late in your game design career. I have always been very consistant in my strong opinion that you should offer your players as wide a variety of options as possible. You are offering that with the two maps and the ability to customize games. Definitley moving in the right direction!!

But hopefully no Dusi Doom spell.

I kind of like the Dusi Doom spell. Maybe Power 3 for Gnomes, higher for less insulted kingdoms.
