Regional Control
#1
Upon taking control of a region, it would be nice if regional control also provided insight into all PCs whether you control them or not. If you have regional control, there should be no mysteries remaining in that region regarding PC whereabouts. Once a king takes control of the overall census, your network of spies start to tell you about where other banners are flying in your region.

I like it fine the way it is. You have spies. They are called Agents and Wizards. Not to mention diplomacy where you talk to your neighbors and get that information.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

I don't agree with Sancus from a historical perspective. Take Papua New Guinea or Waziristan or even Ireland under the rule of the English. The governments there had/have little knowledge of what's happening in the villages, where loyalties lie etc. Just because a govt is 'in control' doesn't mean they get knowledge without actively sending expeditions, research teams, focused spying etc.

Or modern day Afghanistan.

There is a big difference between being an IRA in Ireland and not knowing the name or existance of large town in a region. Just because there may be hate and discontent in a region against a ruler that remains unknown is a lot different than not knowing where tens of thousands of citizens may or may not be living in an organized community of some sort. Now, if these thousands are hiding in caves of the Talking Mountains, would not the mountains "talk" a little about it?

That's similar to the point I was making that it wasn't right that we didn't know the region borders. It works from a game mechanic point of view, so I've decided not to stress over it and accept that this is the first time these folks are exploring this land, so there's a lot of unknown elements, like where borders, rivers and towns are. Like Alexander controlling Afghanistan and probably not knowing where half the towns were.

I gotta agree with Sancus on this.
We don't have enough orders or agents to check every single town and village in a region.

As long as it applies to everybody, I'm fine with it.

I agree with LD. It should remain the way it is.

I don't want to make Alamaze as easy as Fall of Rome is. I dislike that FoR pretty much hands you all the information you need for pcs and unusual sightings. It takes what could be a cool adventure game and makes it a pure war game.

Alamaze isn't just a war game. There are many other possibilities for enjoying yourself. Some of those, for me, are discovering all of these things on my own. I appreciate that there is a possibility, though remote, that I might have a secret village or town in your region that you are completely unaware of. If I had my say, I'd limit the HP divination ability and make this a 100 turn game!
