I’m not dead set against it but I think the first game should really be as vanilla as possible.

Well, it was only a suggestion to make the game more interesting. For new players (and if I remember correctly), the rules for this variant are:

Pagan

1) No divines by either a high priestess or an Ancient One's consul throughout the entire game.

2) Games may last until turn 50. Normally, a game has a max turn limit of 40 turns.


Effects

Since no divines are possible, identifying pop centers in regions will need to be done by your agents, group explorations, and wizard spells (raven, eagle, other). This slows down the game a bit instead of instantly knowing where everything is through a high priestess divination. Think of it as a glorified Exploration mode (no divines until turn 4) but lasting the entire game.

Another aspect of Pagan games is that Temples are no longer needed so that should open up alternative options that are possible to select for your Kingdom Customization.

Also, since games may last until turn 50, the new reinforcement schedule of receiving kingdom troops on turns 35 and 40 become more relevant and worthwhile so you may want to select a kingdom with more troops towards the end of the game.

That's a pretty big change to introduce with 11 of 12 already signed up and already a lot of moving parts in Maelstrom from The Choosing. If these or either are put in, players will have to be careful to discern what is attributable to Ice Age or Pagan apart from the balancing done for Maelstrom that was not designed for those variants.
But let the people decide.

Ok then let's just stick with a normal Steel game without it being Pagan or otherwise. So going back through this thread, that means:


1) Communications are forum-only and may post every three turns (starting with turn 0).
2) No non-aggression-pacts (NAP) lasting longer than 3 turns.
3) Only 1 ally declaration is permitted.
