The Choosing - 3rd Beta Comments

I assume that was against a village. Basically you are too strong for brigade promotion. It used to be even more difficult. I assume you were well over 3:1 value in the battle.

Some comments/observations about this turn:
1) I was dismayed that my Marshall died investigating an encounter despite Valyrian Steel and the Adventurer trait. I did obtain the artifact, though.
About that ... it states:
The Bow of Heracles adds 10% to the group's combat value and increases the chance
of killing enemy leaders and wizards. The risk of death for the possessor is
reduced and that leader has a greater chance of being promoted while using this
artifact. The Bow also aids the group while investigating unusual encounters (by
10 points). Since this relic is a magical weapon-classed artifact, if in the hands
of an agent, it will enable the agent to inflict lethal damage against an undead
leader (nazgul) or wizard (wraith/lich) when performing an assassination attempt.
This is awesome ... I love it! It is unclear to me, however, which leader it protects and helps promote. It is in the possession of the group, of course. Does it apply to every leader in the group or just the highest ranked one?
2) I was paying too much attention to the new stuff and forgot to have my P1 turn invisible when I attacked a village ... and he died! Ugh!
3) I expected my troops in that village attack to become veterans, but they did not. I guess we need a tougher battle (although it did inflict 49.5% attrition on my Wildings!). Do the small battles such as this one accumulate and then lead to promotion, or does it have to be a bigger battle?
4) I love that the description of the artifact is repeated on my "artifacts in possession" report!
5) I love that the pertinent findings are highlighted in blue on my Eagle Familiar reports!

As the Nomad I took 8.5% losses and group attrition was divided as shown below.  This is after healing for a turn.   Both leaders promoted but nobody trained.  FYI

Brigade Type Experience Number Morale Attrition Defense

Nomads Regular 2 100% 0% Average
Zamorans Regular 2 100% 2.1% Average
Huns Green 2 99% 19.5% Good
Interesting.

Yes. Do we know if multiple small battles accumulate for regular to veteran promotion?

I do not, might ask JF but honestly UM or RyVor would be the best options for this knowledge. There were a bunch of changes to military mid last couple of betas so I think some of the knowledge base gained in those battles would be different. I suspect multiple battles don't add up to make one closer battle for promotion.

No accumulation. Each battle is on its own and generates its own chances of death or promotion. As the Tyrant in the last game, one of my groups had 7 small battles and none were individually large enough to cause the group to be "blooded."

I wound up in the same water space as the Halfling last turn and knowing that their navy was composed primarily of garbage scows, I figured it was worth going for a a sea battle:
Sea battle in the sea of Mystery over choppy seas: 3 fleets of Pirates
sleek galleys vs. 2 fleets of Halfling barges. During the first hour of
battle, long and medium range catapult fire inflicted minor damage to the
Pirates navy and severe damage to the Halfling barges. As the forces drew
near, ballistas, fire arrows and grappling missiles caused negligible
losses to the Pirates sleek galleys and minor losses to the Halfling ships.
When the navies clashed at close range, ramming tactics and ship to ship
melee resulted in additional negligible damage to the Pirates ships, and
negligible damage to the Halfling ships. By this time, losses to the
Pirates ships were minor compared to devastating losses to the Halfling
sleek galleys based on the overall number of ships in each navy. The battle
continued to rage for some time until the Halfling fleet attempted to break
off. Their slow sailing navy was unable to escape and was destroyed!
Pirates losses were put at 0 fleet while Halfling losses were estimated at
2 fleets. Damage to surviving ships resulted in diminished naval quality in
that sea.

Thus, I sent the 2HA into the drink and gained 20,000 gold. Not bad for an afternoon's piracy.
I also ordered a trade mission which went well enough, though there's an error there, but I'll report that in the appropriate place. I moved to one of the artifact locations I was given at the start - I'm curious - is there a chance that other players get the same artifact locations or is there a way to make sure everybody gets different ones? I flipped some sea based pop centers and am working on some more.

Special pirate thing to get gold for sinking ships?

By the way, the Atlantian ships in Drowning are not quite so weak as the Halfling ships in Mystery. Could be a cool battle some day.

Yeah pirates receive money for plundering. No clue on the artifacts but it should be seperate.

From the Pirates SetUp:
A successful sea interdiction, where the Pirates win the battle, provides 20,000 gold (reported under Amounts From Late Sources).
