Unusual Sightings

I am frustrated with an unusual sighting in game 105. Here are some results I have had.
First try I went in with General I and no wizard with tactic 1. "It had been decided that some caution would be exercised since the unknown would hold unknown dangers. Suddenly the creatures took flight and quickly disappeared from sight apparently repelled by the timidness of the patrols approach." Ok so I thought I would be aggressive on my second try, but I messed up and put tactic in B column instead of C. I had the same exact results as the first try. (I assume that the default tactic would be 2?) Third try, I did everything correct and put 3 into C column and these were the results. "The patrol was willing to take great risks to uncover what might be secreted ahead. Suddenly the creatures took flight and quickly disappeared from sight, apparently repelled by the boldness of the patrols approach." So I thought maybe send my wizard in to help. So the 4th try I sent in my wizard on a 139 and the patrol on tactic 3. Was the same result as the 3rd try! The only thing that I can think is that the default tactic was a 1 not a 2 and go in this turn as a 2. I am not sure this will work and any advice will be greatly appreciated. The only thing that comes to mind is that you are trying to get the Great Red Bats and, because you are good, they want nothing to do with you. Sell the location to an evil player (or three).

Thanks! I did not know that some worked that way. Will see if I can trade it.

The Evil kingdoms can't get the Winged Stallions. Neutrals can get either, I believe.

UN and GN are neutral. RD also, but the RD cannot investigate or use arties (least of all the Bats/Stallions....can you imagine how a bat would feel if a Red Dragon approached it and asked for a lift

The DW is good and the GN is his natural enemy. GN seems pretty evil to me. RD seems especially evil in game 105...

Also, I know that various kingdoms have different defaults in combat, e.g. Rangers always attack on 3 unless told otherwise. I don't know if that applies in Sighting investigations, but it's possible your default was not 2 and therefore you never used two.

I think Diamond had it right, especially with the quote about the creatures flying away. It took more than two years of pretty much every evening working on the Alamaze design, and I still recall complaining to myself more about the unusual sightings and artifact special orders because each one had to have its own special treatment, whereas, for example, group combat is resolved the same in all instances. What I'm saying is the unusual sightings took very much a disproportionate amount of time to construct, and a player could play for years and not experience all of them. |
