Greetings Noble Nomad!

In light of the recent communications between the Great Giant and the Devious Don, I propose that we improve upon our NAP and form a mutual defense pack. While it is true that our military is not as highly developed as that of your esteemed kingdom, we do have many other useful skills, as well as a large amount of knowledge, that could be used to make life in Alamaze quite uncomfortable for any enemy.

I do not believe that His Most Magnanimous Mammoth Majesty plans to invade either of us, but once our information is revealed, perhaps our pact will dissuade others from considering either of our kingdoms an easy target.

May your travels always bring new adventures,

Roris Rex,
The Great Imperator of the Drow

Hail Great Imperator Rex,

My bards have been telling me you are a most noble and trustworthy ruler.  I acknowledge and accept the wisdom of your offer.  I would happily enter into such a NAP and, in fact, strengthen our ties through marriage.  I propose that we have my 2nd son, Prince Lobalt Swordhand, marry one of your daughters.  I further propose that we enter into a formal NAP with the mutual defense pack, and that we stipulate that this NAP/mutual protection can only be ended with 4 full turns notice.

What say you most noble lord?

~Lord Swordhand

Royal Ranger, Rightly Respected,

Your acceptance of our proposal and suggestion of marriage between our two ancient houses is received with joy in the Onyx Court! We agree to all you suggest.
Let the marriage between their Royal Highnesses, Prince Lobalt and Princess Junna be announced throughout Alamaze!
May the union of our Imperial Family with yours be the start of a New Golden Age in the East.

With jubilation!

Roris Rex,
The Great Imperator of the Drow

Quelania had never intended to reunite with her Captor. She remembered how the monstrously fat creature had nearly eaten her. His warriors had been cheering him on - demanding he claim her power - and he would have, had Big Chief No Fart not arrived.

Meathook Bloodstump was not to be taken lightly.

The massive troll faced her from his throne of piled weapons, furs, and broken pottery - trophies from his fearsome campaign across Northern Torvale. He belched loudly, causing a pair of logs to crack in the nearby fire, then leaned forward and scowled.

Me no like butterfly lady words. You kind of friendly usually end in unwanted peace time, and me no interested. Meathook say Big Chief no around and tiny lady no get lucky twice.

But I must see your king, Meathook. My Queen sent me to --

MEATHOOK King too! the troll thundered. Meathook stronger then all but No Fart. Meathook rocky crag king!

It had been nine days since she had arrived in Gutfell, Quelania thought. Always, it was the same - waiting on this loathsome creature in front of its warband as if she a trophy to stand next to his throne. Each time, he rebuffed her words and demanded she watch his warriors battle. Each time, another day passed and she was no closer to reaching the real King of the Trolls.

She carried words from her queen. Important words - words that might avert a terrible war. She must persevere, no matter the cost.

Then tell me, mighty king. What will it take? What must I do to earn passage through your crags?

Meathook leaned back and roared. What will it take, little butterly?! You want see Troll King of Kings, but you not Queen yourself. No, little bee, only royals see King.

Horror washed through Quelenia as she realized what the beast had in mind. Her knees quaked, and she took several steps back from the Troll's motley throne.

You want see No Fart, pretty flea, you marry Meathook!

Quelenia and her captor were to be reunited indeed.

OOC, we've been prospering quietly to the North. True to words exchanged at the beginning of this campaign, we've always considered the Trolls as friends. To allay your nervous thoughts, we suggest a marriage between our people - indeed, an unlikely union to cement an alliance.

Our considerable resources would augment yours against whatever foes threaten us and whichever foes we deem enemies. Knowing well that you are better versed in war then we, we suggest you lead strategy in this partnership and we support it openly and in good faith.

Esteemed Dwarven King,

With your treacherous naval attack on my fleet, my people are urging me to war.  What cause have you to attack me so?  Luckily the losses were minor, but the loss of a wizard is a sting that is certainly felt.

The only reason I can see for you to build such a mighty fleet is to threaten my dear ally, the Dark Elf Imperator and me.  Should I assume, then, that our nations are at war?

Good Ranger,
My daughter writes of her fondness for her gallant new husband and of how well she is treated in your court.
My navies in The Sea of Drowning did not report any activity by the Dwarven fleet.
Please be assured that we have quite a fine fleet in that sea ourselves and that we will declare you our ally this turn and begin our own patrols.

Doughty Dwarven King,
I am sure that your fleet's actions against our ally was an error. How shall this be addressed?
If it was an intentional attack on the most virtuous Ranger, please be advised that we are obligated to come to his defense.

My Dear Allies,

I'm surprised this has never come to my attention before, but just as the peasants of the land are impressed by the gathering of artifacts, I understand they view declaring other Kingdoms as allies to be a sign of significant weakness. And as it so happens, the biannual festivals are coming up this month, where the peasants are very active in trading gossip and pontificating about the state of our fair land, which tends to cement certain impressions onto their rather fickle minds.

In light of this bothersome logistical reality, barring a negative reaction from you, we intend to declare both of you neutral this month. Please do not take offense at this, I promise you that we still hold both of you in the highest esteem and have no malicious intentions whatsoever against you. This is sheerly for show, for the benefit of the masses, and only made necessary by these -- somewhat incomprehensible -- reactions from them.

If you wish to reciprocate by declaring us neutral, that would of course be fine as well.

Best,
Bottlenose, for the Gnomes

Lord Lothaedus Stormhand,

The naval clash is indeed a regrettable incident, however as I trust you know when an unallied fleet on patrol interdicts another navy conflict ensues. This naval engagement was the result of a standing patrol, not an attack directed at you that should be seen as an aggressive act. I stated several months ago my intent to build fleets and patrol the sea, your admirals should not have been surprised.

Regarding the purpose of the fleet; I initiated that order and built ships at a time when war seemed imminent with the Darkelf and little progress was being made to secure acceptance of my rightful title to a town in the Sea of Drowning that I value. With a pact of non-aggression with the Darkelf you may be assured I have no intent of attacking your ally.

Does this assuage your concerns? A war between our Kingdoms seems like an astonishingly poor idea given the growing alliances that now surround you (and the Dwarves).

Great Imperator,

You may rest assured that I have no intent of attacking your ally, if anything I'm inclined to suggest that we join forces in light of the other alliances that have been formed. Moreover, I'm willing to declare you an ally if you'll reciprocate so we may jointly patrol the Sea of Drowning and ensure the safety of our denizens there.

In any case, I would ask that you reaffirm the pact of non-aggression I believe we have in place. It was made prior to your alliance with the Ranger and your assertion that you're obligated to come to his aid would conflict with our NAP. This may be a moot point given my intent, but I do want to be sure I understand your position.

Big Chief No Fart sat in this throne polishing his favorite axe. He was pointedly ignoring the stress of his advisory. "I don't trust men who be silent all the time," he said. "The Dark One sits up there surrounded by his stormy sea and think we no pay attention. His evil freaks learn more magic and twist their bodies so they turn ugly like tall, skinny gnomes who no eat. And when time come, dark tide come south and wash us away. No, we no wait. Let him turn his nasty magic on us - we grow back stronger and stronger!"
"Um, Big Chief, the Dark One may be very strong. Wouldn't it at least make sense to try and get some allies to fight him?"
"Oh, yes, we look for friends. Plenty of spoils to go around. We strike first so Dark One not be ready, but now we talk to all around to see who want to join us in crushing the evil freak!"

King Oban,

I caution you to have your messengers not deliver false missives.  Your latest messenger stated "DA -> RA".

I have lost tremendous investment in my fleet quality which has set me back substantially.  I have also lost a low level wizard.  My people are clamoring for war.  I believe the only way that I could assuage their rage is if you can demonstrate through action an appropriate level of responsibility.  First, I would ask that you immediately and irrevocably dismantle your fleet in the Sea of Drowning.  Second, some monetary compensation seems appropriate for the significant loss of our naval presence and wizard.

Kindly let me know what your position is in this matter.
