Ideas for the Next Scenario?
#41
I saw another post (from JF believe) where he suggested an additional resource (similar to Mana Crystals).

And we could also introduce something similar to HP where certain spells have a % chance of weakening the Wizard for a turn or rendering him unconscious for a turn.

Example:
Dome of Invulnerability
Requirements: A Wizard powerful enough to cast the spell + 5 Mana Crystals
Has a 25% chance to weaken Wizard (Weakened Wizards can only cast spells from 1 power level below current level in the next turn - minimum P1 spells)
Has a 10% chance to severely weaken Wizard (Severely Weakened Wizards can only cast spells from 2 power levels below current level in the next turn - minimum P1 spells)
Has a 3% chance of rendering the Wizard unconscious for a turn
** and some spells or outcomes could have a positive effect (where it invigorates the Wizard)...and he can cast an additional spell the next turn from a spell list 2 below his current level (for example).

...just some more ideas to think about....

I don't like the concept of mana crystals because then Alamaze loses its esoteric nature and becomes more like another game but I do like having magic classifications like necromancy, evocation, summoning, ...etc.

Would LOVE to see random cities in the next release...or at least make it an option.

I love this one.  Make us hunt for that "pot of gold" at the end of the rainbow.  :-)

It also allows us to use one of the HP commands that has never been used (Divine Popcenter = City)

It would be cool if we could hire a character (or team) that we could send out to found a new settlement (aka build a village).

Also would be nice if PC's could be upgraded from one PC type to another. (maybe based on census? or a special command with resource costs, or certain building/structures) For example:
Settlement (or small village)
Crossroads
Village
Township (small town)
Burghal
Fortified Town
Principality (small city)
City
Metropolis - maybe, this is when a city becomes known to all kingdoms???

I like this.  Also could give some basic idea of census as a group moves or Emmy enters the city without fully scouting yet.  Makes for an interesting thing later in the game after others thought they had the region already divined

Why would you want there to even be a culmination of Alamaze? It is the bread and butter of your game design. It is your signature game.

What is the difference between Alamaze and Arcania? Are they distinct worlds? Are they continents? Does one lie within the other?

Alamaze just now begins to bloom anew, and you intend to scurry off in pursuit of Arcania? Pah! What manner of madness is this, McDowell?

You're going to end up missing the forest for the trees, if you're not careful. That's what I think.

Then again, it's been a coon's age since I last tried my hand at Alamaze - and even then, it was with another company. Here, I mostly scurry about like a rat, lurking in dark corners of the forum and feasting upon morsels and tidbits of what gets posted here.

I tend to agree, I'd rather see some minor tweaking, tinkering, and adjustments to the current 3rd Cycle to sharpen it to perfection and then have some more time actually playing it before launching in to yet another iteration. I play "a lot" of Alamaze, but I still have yet to play all the kindgoms, and most I've only played once so it's still quite new.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about all the ways these ideas could get spun in to new games, scenarios, maps, variants, etc. but I'd like to settle in to 3C and play it awhile before having to learn a whole new game.

It does worry me that Rick seems to have an expiration date on Alamaze. The new Valhalla is going to have some stretch goals and I'd hate for it all to be obsolete in a year or two.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.
