Big Chief No Fart,

Out of respect for you we did not bid this month. Next month or two we make small to medium bid for Giants. No telling if we win bid, but we always plan to bid small because sometimes council members busy and so not bid at all! Shame to see it go to waste.

Summer coming for us and even with gold making we still not as rich as many Kingdoms since we share with Underworld. Very confident we will be outbid by lots over summer unless others too busy to bid.

Dwarf not even accept proposal yet, maybe he will or maybe different proposal made. But if I win for Giants and then win for Dwarf, I agree with you that I will not bid all summer long.

Bottlenose, for the Gnomes

PS: I should also point out the Dwarves are already on the High Council and could bid to raise an issue whenever he wants, so this is simply a way for two ancient enemies to deal with each other and to save his King some time.

Dear Red Mage,

Greetings! Our guild of international Gnomish traders is eagerly awaiting the results of your research, as they seek to spread Gnomish cheer, goodwill, and more importantly goods, across the land of Alamaze.

In the meantime, as you continue to prepare this boon for all peoples, we thought we might offer you something in return. Though you may question the motives behind it, I assure you, the intentions are well-meant.

As a relatively newer ruler, you seem to be under some impressions which, although they are certainly your prerogative to hold, I do not believe those impressions to be universally shared.

As an example, although two allies may opt to defer to one another for artifact sightings in their home regions, there is no universal expectation that those artifact sightings belong to the region owner. That is the nature of adventure, which may take explorers across the land! Of course, offense may be taken by whomever chooses to do so, but most of the time some kind of understanding is reached.

For example, if two patrols with wizards sit across a dungeon opening from one another, and there is no non-aggression pact, they could opt to cast fatal spells at one another and weaken each other, or they could agree to a simple race. In such cases, of course, the relative power of the patrols is also relevant.

As a case in point, with no non-aggression pact currently in force between the Dwarves and Gnomes (even though I had offered him such a pact numerous months ago, he chose not to accept, and so that offer has now expired), there is indeed a risk of conflict between my patrol and his division if we cannot come to terms. In such a case, given the wizard power disparity between us, he is likely to lose one or more wizards and leaders, and thus have next to no chance against an already challenging artifact sighting.

On a separate note, it is by no means universally expected that an alliance between two Kingdoms automatically means non-aggression pacts are void in the event of hostilities with an ally. Indeed, this may be part of your recent misunderstanding regarding the alliance between us and the Witchlord.

Although I also do not pretend my position is universally held, I believe if you delve into the historical archives available to all of us, the majority position will be that non-aggression pacts in fact supersede alliances, unless that scenario is specifically carved out (as you rightly seek to clarify in advance with the Trolls).

Indeed, non-aggression pacts have typically been considered to be so inviolate that even if a rival is about to conquer Alamaze, counter-parties are expected not to intervene, again, barring a carve-out specifically made in advance.

I offer no opinion on the propriety or wisdom inherent in any of these positions, I merely offer them up to you as my own understanding of historical expectations.

Sincerely,
Bottlenose, for the Gnomes

The Great Lord of the Stars, Moon, and Sky greets you. He has no territorial ambitions towards your damp little land. He would agree to a peace treaty lasting through the next Summer.

Please do not take any of my comments as a personal insult or as a criticism of the game 'Alamaze', which I very much enjoy. Rather, I hope that my personal insight and unique perspective may, in some way, help make 'Alamaze' more fun, a more successful financial venture, or simply more sustainable as a long-term project. Anyone who reads this post should feel completely free to ignore, disregard, scorn, implement, improve, dispute, or otherwise comment upon its content.

I am not necessarily ready for any expansions plans but have been having the idea that you and I as defenders of Arcania might work together in that regard.  We have two mobile kingdoms which allow for a multitude of targets and so those peoples in close proximity should not have any greater reason for alarm than the rest of the world.  I have not presumed your interest in this strategy at all and am only communicating our preference for a strategic partner.  Again, if you agree at all, there is still not necessarily any urgency.  I do believe I have come up with a way for us to communicate the salient details in this open forum exclusively (obviously) in such a way that others will not be privy to our broad plans.

Want to go and see the world together Big Black?
