Turn Results Parser
#91
I do not know what setx does. I would have expected to see you cd to the directory (folder) consuming the file and just typed its name there, to run it. After it failed to run, doing a dir right there should should show the error file.

I'm trying to open the parserGUI. and I tried opening it with CMD as well. This is the command line I use:

C:Users\Stephen>setx C: Program Files\parserGUI-1.6.0

then is says:

SUCCESS: Specified value was saved

.....whatever that means

setx is just setting a variable; it is not trying to run a program.

Hopefully this example will help:
Let's say you download the program to your 'downloads' folder.
When you start the command prompt, this is what you might see.
The bolded text is what you would type.

You do not need to do the 'dir par*' part. I only included it so that you can verify that the program you are trying to run really is there.

Ok I tried that. Once you hit enter after typing in parserGUI-1.6.0.exe is it suppose to take a couple minutes for it to open?....Still hasn't opened.

Ive also tried using Windows Powershell (kind of like command prompt) and that doesn't work either. Too bad copy and paste don't work. It just says the spelling is incorrect, even though its correct.

Yes. The command returns almost immediately, but then you can hear the disk spinning pretty hard (the binary is extracting an entire ruby installation into a temporary location. That is why it takes so long to startup).

Did you do the 'dir' command to verify that the file really is in the same directory you are trying to run it from. Sorry for asking such dumb questions, but I don't know how else to help. You might also try putting a .\ (dot+backslash) immediately before the filename.

One more thing. I noticed that when it starts up, the text window shows this:
Quote:OCRA_EXECUTABLE=[C:\Users\jgibbs\Downloads\parserGUI-1.6.0.exe]
$0=[C:/Users/jgibbs/AppData/Local/Temp/ocr7E82.tmp/src/amap.rbw]

What that means is that it is trying to dump the Ruby install below C:/Users/jgibbs/AppData/Local/Temp/.
Maybe Windows8 has a different structure and the stupid binary is trying to put it in the wrong place.
Try this

Quote:cd c:\users\stephen\downloads
set TMP=
set TMP=%CD%
set TEMP=
set TEMP=%CD%
dir par*
parserGUI-1.6.0.exe
dir ocr*
dir par*

I'm hoping this will tell the binary to try to use the current working directory as the temporary location where it should install Ruby.

Try that and send me a screenshot of the command window. (hit the Print Screen key on your keyboard and then paste into paint or your mail tool). Send email to scriptwizard99@gmail.com and put Alamaze in the title so that my mail tool does not toss it in the trash.

No. I will try Friday night. Was busy with work Thursday. I really want to get it to work. Will make games less difficult to keep track of everything

Just updated first post in this thread with links to 1.7.0.

This release has two much needed fixes/enhancements. First, it now has a dialog that will allow you to manually enter population centers, emissaries, and groups. This helps when someone else provides you information and you want to add it to the map. Before, you had to open that data file in a text editor and hand-craft a new record. It is also useful anytime the parser cannot read the turn results. The other change in this release is a fix that should make the GUI much better about detecting population centers that you have lost.

Good deeds never go unpunished. My latest fix has a bug. That is, if you are loading the parsed results of another players's turn into your game, it will mark all of your PCs as lost. Imagine the look on my face when all my PCs changed color! Anyway, it was a trivial fix, so here it is. First post has been updated to reflect version 1.7.1
