Transfers

Other than Order 744 being poorly written with any relevant description, what is the difference between these orders other than one costs more than the other?

#744 LATE COMBINE OF TWO GROUPS IN THE SAME AREA

Column A - Your group's I.D. from which items will be transferred
Column B - Your group's I.D. to which the items are trans¬ferred
Resource Cost – 5,000 Gold, 4,000 Food, and –5 points of morale.

#740 COMBINE TWO GROUPS IN THE SAME AREA -
You may use this order if, after movement, two of your groups are located in the same area and you wish to merge them into one group. Remember that the restrictions relating to group composition (ie- no more than three leaders, wizards or brigade types) apply. If two groups that in some way exceed these limitations are ordered to combine, excess items will be dropped from the resulting group. (Normally this will be the least valuable of the items in excess.) The group from which all items were transferred becomes an inactive group. Some cost is associated with reassigning command, unit organization, etc.

Column A - Your group's I.D. from which items will be transferred
Column B - Your group's I.D. to which the items are trans¬ferred
Resource Cost - 1000 Gold.

The difference in timing can be critical when you have more than 2 groups in the same area and need to shuffle leaders to one and troops to another etc. Remember groups can't have more than 3 leaders or wizards or brigade types. So sometimes you need to combine BEFORE you transfer or detach a leader/wizard and then combine again.

I've been very glad for the late transfer orders several times when needing to move people about...

Remember the Sequence of Events. The point is that you can control how they happen. 740 always happens before 744. 'Late' just means it happens later than the normal order.

Got it. But, what is soooo enticing between 740 and 744 to warrant the added expense?

A 2nd big combine in the same area causes a certain amount of expense and stress. In the confusion, supplies go missing and profiteers take advantage.
