Ranger Kingdom
#1
I posted this thread because I wanted to start a discussion about the RA Kingdom and their spot in 3rd cycle.

I RA is not a very appealing kingdom to me because they appear to be average at everything (with the exception of the best military leaders in the game; I'm not sure what that means for the kingdom or the army groups) and they start in region 8 without a hidden capital. In the majority of my games, region 8 is what the D1 (RD/TY) immediately go after.

If you're the IL, I feel like the hidden capital gives you a nice sanctuary to keep all your emmys, agents, and wizards safe, even if there is savage onslaught going on all around you.

With the RA, your only choice is to square up against the RD/TY, and I feel like that is never a good at the beginning of a game.

What do you think? Is is plausible to be competitive against the RD/TY off of turn 1 like in the Gnome vs. RD thread? Is there a huge strength to the kingdom that I am missing?

They have advantaged leaders and can develop warlords quickly.  By recruiting and training 4 Zamorans they can attack Esteria Vale on turn 3.  Use two power 2's to cast fear and all starting Ranger briagdes.

The Eagle familiar at level 2 allows them to recon for PC's and search for artifacts at the same time.   They are very good at getting artifacts.

The mammoths are a nice troop type once you get an Elite brigade.  Flanking is a very effective special order versus the Tyrant.

All of that being said it will be a hard game if they have to battle the TY or the RD from turn 1.   I think the RD especially will have the military advantage and wish there was a spell that would protect your troops or PC's a bit more to balance a fight versus the RD.

My 2 cents...
