Lost at sea -- on land?!?

Can someone explain to me how two brigades can be lost at sea from a group that is on dry land and didn't move? This is the text from Military Encounters:

A BRIGADE OF VETERANS WAS LOST AT SEA WHEN THE SHIP THEY WERE ON SANK BENEATH THE WAVES!

Never heard of that being tried. Based on the description above I think it might work. You could try 2 spells in an experiment.

This issue is still banging around the game code as I had two turns in a row where my 1DE lost 4 brigades a turn to drowning at sea. This is while camped outside Cradia in Runnimede.
